Area Description: Fulton is a small, picturesque historic town nestled in the center of the state of Missouri and home to two universities, Westminster College and William Woods University and the Missouri School for the Deaf. The National Churchill Museum in Fulton commemorates Winston Churchill and his Iron Curtain speech. His 1946 address built a legacy bringing to Westminster College many world leaders; Margaret Thatcher, Harry S. Truman, Gerald R. Ford, Ronald W. Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Mikhail Gorbachev and more. Churchill’s granddaughter acquired a section of the Berlin Wall to create a sculpture, entitled “Break Through”, which is at Westminster College. Also, The Memorial includes the Church of St Mary the Virgin, Aldermanbury which was dismantled in London and rebuilt on the Westminster campus to mark Churchill’s visit.
Novelist Henry Bellamann was born in Fulton in 1882. Fulton is said to have been Bellamann’s model for the fictional town in the novel Kings Row. The film cast included Robert Cummings and Ronald Reagan. M F Bell, an American architect, designed a number of historic buildings in Fulton. It is recorded that he was involved in the remodeling of this property in 1908.
These are just a few examples of our friendly little town with brick streets. However, we are only a few miles away from the state capitol, Jefferson City, and Columbia – home of Missouri University and the MIZZOU Tigers.
