Area Description: Harpers Ferry is a beautiful area located in the far eastern Pan Handle of West Virginia. It’s at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers where they come together to form the Potomac that flows through Washington DC. The village of Harpers Ferry is about 60 miles from DC and is surrounded by Harpers Ferry National Historic Park. which is a favorite destination for several hundred thousand visitors from DC each year. It is famous for John Brown’s raid on its armory and for a civil war battle that was part of the southern strategy prior to the battle of Antietem.

Structure: Simple Federal style , built in 1992-93 and designed by a former national park architect. With a stairwell on each end, two vestibules, 4 exterior entrances, 6 bedrooms and 5 and a half baths, the house can easily be adapted for many types of use. A large bedroom with a handicapped friendly bathroom is located on the first floor.
A strong, dry, steel reinforced poured concrete foundation with brick texture. It is wood structure with German cedar siding and a period standing seam metal roof with strong metal gutters. The living room, dining room, all bedrooms and hallway floors are period style tongue and grove pine. All exterior walls are insulated with R13 insulation. Second floor ceilings are insulated with R30 fiberglass bats and blown fiberglass as necessary.
The house is connected to city Water and Sewer. There is also a downspout and rain barrel system that normally provides enough water for all the outside plantings and gardens. There are two high efficiency Heat Pump /AC unites with efficient propane backup furnaces for very cold weather.
