Area Description: Sapulpa Oklahoma is a quiet quaint town with a population of 20k. It is a Route 66 community, located 13 miles from Tulsa. The Tulsa metro now boasts a population of one million. Sapulpa is the county seat of Creek County. It’s motto is “Oklahoma’s Most Connected City”, because of its location at the intersections of US 66 and US 75. The town is steeped in history. There are many historic sites within its boundaries, including vintage gas stations, history museums, auto museums, historic downtown district, historic bridge at Rock Creek, and of course the Historic Burnett Mansion. Sapulpa was an important part of the early oil boom in Oklahoma. The Burnett Mansion is the last of the “Oil Boom” homes remaining from that era. It’s located in the heart of Sapulpa, just two blocks off Route 66. For 107 years the mansion has proudly stood as a testament to the quality construction of that era. There are currently very few lodging choices in the area, which makes it very suitable for a Bed and Breakfast location.

Structural Description: The Burnett Mansion is a “Southern Plantation” style home with 6,500 SQ FT. Of living space and 2,000 SQ. FT. of porches and balconies along with a partial basement. It was built in 1911 by early-day oilman Bates Burnett. Mr. Burnett was the man considered by historians as the one most responsible for Sapulpa becoming a city. After building many of the downtown buildings (i.e. banks, hotels, office, etc.), he wanted to build his “dream home”. His intent was to build th finest home in Oklahoma. He spared no expense, using the finest materials and craftsmen that were available. He imported mahogany from the Philippines, Oak from Spain, and imported stone for the foundation. He brought in 3 Italian artists to hand-paint the decor on the walls and ceilings. The mansion has been carefully protected and preserved through the years. Most of the stain and cut glass windows are still intact. Many of the original features still remain. These include: steam radiators (now decorative), dumb waiter, walk-in ice box, and much more.

The house has 3 stories plus partial basement. The first floor includes the formal living and dining rooms, breakfast nook, gentleman’s parlor, kitchen, powder room, and foyer. The second floor has 3-4 bedrooms, office, and music alcove, plus access to upstairs balconies. The third floor hosts the grand ballroom which has a “spring-loaded” dance floor. The house has many closets throughout, including one which had the remnants of a “moonshine still” used during prohibition. There are 4 fireplaces (not currently being used), and the home is equipped with central heat and air. The Mansion has been used for the past 11 years as an event center. We have hosted everything from weddings, to receptions, tea parties, murder mysteries and more. For the past 5 years, we have operated as a restaurant. We have had overnight guests at some of these events, but it has not officially been used as a Bed & Breakfast. With a few modifications and proper license, it would be very suitable for a Bed & Breakfast.
