Area Description: This unique property is located in the quaint waterfront town of Belhaven, NC, just 30 miles from Washington, NC via Rt 264E. If you are traveling by boat on the intraCoastal Waterway (ICW) the entrance to the Belhaven Harbor is at Mile Marker 136.
Our Town of Belhaven, and this property, have been recognized in statewide magazines and countywide competitions.
Presently, the Town of Belhaven is building bathroom facilities and a bandstand at its waterfront park and docks. Within a block, you are in downtown with restaurants offering exquisite cuisine, shops with unique souvenirs, antiques, and other necessary items, hair-styling salons, an ice cream store, and a microbrewery. Also, you are only 5 minutes from two hardware stores, a Dollar General, FoodLion, a post office, and a medical center. Or launch your own boat at the downtown state-operated boat ramp.
Lake Mattamuskeet is only a 30 minute drive to see its birds and other wildlife. Or you can drive approximately 45 minutes to take a ride on the Swan Quarter Ferry in your vehicle across Pamlico Sound to Okracoke Island and the shores of North Carolina’s Outer Banks.
The Town of Belhaven offers many adventures! Take a boat ride, bring your kayaks, go fishing or crabbing, shopping or exploring, or just relax on the front porch to watch boats cruise the Belhaven Harbor. Belhaven is known for its friendly nature so make sure you wave to anyone passing by the B&B.
Site Description: This Federal Style home was Belhaven Water Street Bed & Breakfast for 17 years featured in NC’s Our State Magazine. It has been a residential home since closing in March of 2020 due to governmental COVID shutdowns. It could become a bed and breakfast again should a buyer desire. Belhaven Water Street Bed & Breakfast was the longest running B&B in Beaufort County at closing with health ratings of 100% while open.
In 2024 the home’s interior was freshly painted, except for the library/bedroom. Now the home is ready for your family, small business, or B&B. The front porch welcomes you with an open arm stairway, a handicap friendly ramp surrounding a Japanese Maple tree courtyard, and a stately front door with decorative side lights. The living/common room features a custom propane gas fireplace, hardwood floors, built-in bookcases & an open railed staircase to 2nd floor.
The ceramic tiled kitchen has a spacious walk-in pantry and stainless-steel appliances making culinary selections easily prepared. A formal dining room is next to the kitchen and adjoins the Butler’s pantry w/cabinets for easy access to refreshments.
Three bedrooms have gas fireplaces & all bedrooms have private ceramic tiled bathrooms. The living room, 3 bedrooms, & front porch have fantastic views of Belhaven Harbor (Pantego Creek) for unbelievable sunsets. Our Live Oak tree offers shade on the front porch and along the cobblestone walkway leading to the driveway.
The small cottage in the backyard offers a front porch with built in benches. To the right side is a full camper hook-up.
Structural Description: When purchased, this was a single-family home which has been remodeled into a 5-bedroom bed and breakfast. We began with HVAC, electrical work, plumbing, and working with the Town of Belhaven and Beaufort County Health Department to be sure we met their requirements. All old plumbing and electricals were removed. Contractors replaced all plumbing, electrical, and gas lines, installed 5 bathrooms, new kitchen, and butler’s pantry. A new 4 zoned heating & cooling system was installed, and an independent mini split was also installed in the 1st floor office/bedroom w/private entrance. All new gas lines were installed for the 4 fireplaces, kitchen stove, dryer, and hot water heater.
The home was insulated with fiberglass insulation blown in the exterior side walls and attic, and crawlspace. In addition, all interior ceilings and interior walls were insulated with fiberglass for sound deadening.
- The original hardwood floors in the living room, dining room, and first floor front bedroom were professionally refinished.
- An additional room was built as an office with a full bath, screened in ceramic tiled side porch and deck giving this room private access.
- Vinyl siding was installed to reduce exterior maintenance costs.
- The roof is architectural shingles, and the front porch is a raised lap metal roof.
- The cabin in the backyard measures approximately 12 x 16 ft with built in benches on the front deck, electric heat pump, tankless gas hot water heater and ceramic tile bath.
- Living area has tongue and groove floor with vaulted ceiling. This area comes furnished.
- Full camper hook ups next to the water hydrant.
